Decarboxylation is the process of “activating” cannabis. This calls for a set amount of heat over a set amount of time. The THC-A molecule loses the “-A” through heating and creates a THC only molecule that is readily available to the human cannabinoid receptors and ready to infuse for your edibles.
There are some rules around the decarb’ing of cannabis and one of them is the relationship of time vs. heat. If the heat is to low and the period of time is too short then you may not be “activating” the cannabis and getting it ready for the infusion process or to be bio-available.
There is no hard or fast rule regarding the decarb temperatures you can use however, the general school of thought for a solid decarb experience is low and slow. High temperatures risk scorching or even worse burning the organic matter you are trying to activate.
We recommend trying 225 F. for one hour (using the BUTTER BAGZ™ system) as a safe and slow and guaranteed activation of your precious greens. Make sure not to grind the organic material, pick it apart my hand. Grinding is too fine and risks burning the plant matter.
Side note: The process of decarbing is actually burning off the “-A” molecule which means that you will lose almost 15% of the original weight but no worries, you now have 85% activated material ready for infusion or edibles.
